Hello everyone and Happy New Year! I've been a bit offline from the blogging world since my last update, but wanted to share some progress on The Poseidon Project. The new book cover has been approved and things are moving along.
Once I signed the contract with the Wild Rose Press, the real work started, hence my absence, It's all good, though, so I wanted to bring you up to date. The book will be published in Summer 2024 - that's as exact as I can get right now. It is in the second round of editing - which has been quite an experience.
Editing with a big publisher is more than checking for proper grammar and spelling (and punctuation, of course.) It's about story flow, cutting out a bunch of stuff that may mean something to me, but a reader would be like "WTF is this guy talking about? I care about his flowing locks and steel blue eyes, blah blah blah" so I've been doing a lot of re-writing. The editor I am working with is named Dianne, and she is brilliant. She also terrifies me because she is so razor sharp on calling me out on my mistakes and basically any bullshit she thinks is crap. She is very nice about it, direct, transparent and has been spot on 100% of the time.
I spent Christmas break writing and re-writing and it's already a much better story. There will be up to two more rounds of this (pass the Xanax) but I'm ready for it. Once we get through the editing, the book starts to go into various phases of production. It's all been a learning experience and in a different league than when the Tenth Man was published in 2004.
The first thing I had to come up with is called a Blurb - a brief description and a hook grab the interest of potential readers as they browse for something to read. Here's the Blurb for Poseidon Project
The Poseidon Project is an international adventure thriller and mystery.
Molly Halloran and her friends have a secret past. Their bucolic retirement is suddenly upended when Molly’s husband is abducted and held for a steep ransom. Now she, her friends, her tech executive son, Lukas and his Air Force pilot boyfriend must race against the clock and travel halfway around the world to meet the kidnappers’ demands. But when they learn why her husband has been abducted, they realize how high the stakes truly are. Molly and her friends now must face their pasts in order to save the future. But not only their futures; the world’s.
I'll update you as more develops and when the release date is finalized. Lots more to do on publicity and marketing that I'm working on now. Many thanks for following my stories on this blog and on Instagram @billpodojil
